Nathalia Nova: from IED São Paulo to Milan and back with her product design collection
Fragmentos is a design collection that was born from a process of material investigation. Nathalia Nova, who studied Furniture Design in IED São Paulo and IED Milano, developed the collection starting from the redefinition of waste materials from a glass factory in South-Eastern Brazil.
The factory's production is based on Murano's ancient craft technique of blown crystal, and surplus material is discarded and sold in small quantities to make bottles and "marbles." This gave the input to Nathalia, who observed the different peculiarities of the material such as colors and transparencies and recreated, through joints and new firings, different surfaces for her collection of furniture and objects, reaffirming the relationship of sustainability and social responsibility, through redesign.
We have lamps, tables, wall panels, dishes that look like jewels with their different colors, texture and shapes. The beautiful collection was then chosen to represent IED at the special edition DESIGN NO COLETIVO of the Feira na Rosenbaum: a joyful gathering curated by Cris Rosenbaum, Art Curator and Designer, that brings together independent artists and designers to support Brazilian authorial creations.
