Building a common ground on Artificial Intelligence with An Act of Imagination

Published on November 27, 2023

Raise your hand if in the past few months you have not found your inbox and social media feed populated with insides and opinions on the use of Artificial Intelligence in a wide variety of fields.

October and November were in fact months of shared reflection on this issue, but for IED there was something more. In fact, at Lucca Comics & Games 2023, held on November 4, the School laid the groundwork for An Act of Imagination: a year-long cooperation and research project dedicated to the ethics and practice of using generative models in the creative field. The launch event was attended by:

Emanuele Vietina, Director of Lucca Comics & Games
Ilja Rotelli, Head of Global Business Development and Game Investment at Amazon Games
Lorenzo Ceccotti, Cartoonist, Italian Manager for European Guild for Artificial Intelligence Regulation
Alessandro D'Annibale, Group Marketing Director at IED
Francesco d’Isa, Writer and Philosopher,
Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini, Director of Art di Lucca Comics and Games and IED Professor and
Giulia Ursenna Dorati, Alumna IED, Visual Artist, Professor and Researcher

The goal of the project is to create awareness and shared information about the use of technologies such as ChatGpt, Midjourney and DallE, thanks to the dialogue between designers, artists and educators, who are at the forefront of this new way of creating text and images.
Throughout 2024, IED's Milan, Rome and Florence offices will be involved in open research meetings and workshops, where generative AIs will be experimented with together and their use will be discussed.

The heralded cultural revolution is happening right now, and we creatives are being called to deeply question the benefits and risks we are taking.
