Matteo Montenero: a new project in Kosovo

Published on October 27, 2022

Matteo Montenero, alumnus IED Torino, recently published a report on a Serbian enclave in Kosovo called Velika Hoča, with just under six hundred inhabitants. Velika Hoča is a place of worship and, with its approximately 13 Orthodox church buildings dating back to the Middle Ages, is a pilgrimage destination. Poverty, destruction and prejudice have plagued this part of the Balkans since the 1996-1999 war, mainly due to unemployment, which led many citizens to emigrate to Belgrade. With his photographs, Matteo wanted to try to portray the social situation revolving around this country's political and religious reality. After his studies at IED Torino, Matteo Montenero won a scholarship to attend a ICP Masterclass and a second scholarship from the Wall Street Journal in New York. He participated in the Canon Young Photographers Award and the REFOCUS2 call for entries. His reference 'masters' are Luc Delahaye and Richard Mosse.
