ATTILA VERESS WINS WALLPAPER DESIGN AWARD
Called Bontà, it is the portable table lamp designed by young design talent Alumnus Attila Veress (interview and video interview) in collaboration with Michelin Star chef Davide Oldani. Made for Artemide, one of the best known Italian lighting brands, the lamp won the Wallpaper Design Award 2021 in the "Best Tea Time" category. Awarded by an international jury including professionals, journalists and professors.

Wireless, portable, multifunctional, capable of harmoniously combining craftsmanship and innovation. The creation signed by Oldani and Veress is made up of a body in textured opal glass, that diffuses the light generating a soft atmosphere, and at the top of a glass bowl-tray (one higher, and one larger), where you can arrange the food you want to share. Bontà therefore combines new and modern wisdom in a single lamp, creating a particular interaction between light, food and conviviality. With an eye to sustainability, in addition to hand-crafted glass, there is a lower aluminum shell that is one hundred percent recyclable.

SIMONE BONANNI ON DOMUS
Last May, during one of the digital talks organised by IED, the Italian chef and the Romanian designer had also talked about their collaboration involving food and design. IED Milano is where Veress graduated in Product Design in 2011, obtained a Master, and now teaches. After his training experience at the Istituto Europeo di Design, work collaborations arrived, some of which with companies like 3M, BMW, Fratelli Guzzini, TVS. A series of awards followed, including an Honorable Mention at the XXIII Compasso d'Oro (Targa Giovani), also won by Simone Bonanni, another IED Milano Alumnus, who collaborated with Veress on various projects. In 2016 they worked on Skyline, a kitchen hood that received the Special Mention at the Elica / Cristalplant Design Contest, and in 2018 they designed a bathroom collection for the Emilian company Falper. Bonanni, born in 1989, also a teacher at the Milan branch of the Institute, was one of the protagonists of the new issue of Domus magazine, who spoke about his table for Fiam. From its name, Theo, it is characterised by minimalist lines, lightness and depth, enriched with light and reflections through the use of high temperature molten glass.

FEDERICO PERI, THE "GOLDEN BOY"
Another IED Milano Alumnus, Federico Peri (interview and video interview), received a recognition of merit from AD France as one of the best designers of 2020; he also won the prestigious EDIDA 2020 China award for the Best Bedding category with his creation for Baxter. The designer, who now collaborates with prestigious brands such as FontanaArte, Purho and Salviati, was defined as the "golden boy" of Italian design in the latest issue of Marie Claire Maison.

OUR SPAIN ALUMNI WINNING PROJECTS
However, Italy is not the only one to boast recent awards. Moving to Spain we find, in the product design field, the thesis project of the IED Madrid student Diego Acosta Vidal, One Side (link), who won the iF Design Talent Award in 2020, a well-known award dedicated to design and aimed at students from all part of the planet. His project, consisting of a technological device designed for the rehabilitation of the upper limbs in people suffering from Acquired Cerebral Injury, aims to transform the treatment into a playful and immersive experience.

In interior design, IED Madrid Alumna Virginia Herrera won an award by the IF World Design Guide thanks to her post-graduate space design work Habitat (link). Her idea was to offer alternative housing to students who have to face the high cost of real estate in Madrid by providing comfort and promoting community life. The project has two necessary components. On the one hand, a co-living on the outskirts of the city; on the other, the small modules distributed around the city center. Both types of spaces, which can be booked through a special app, have the typical functions of a traditional house, with private rooms and shared spaces: for example, a corner dedicated to co-working and one to the kitchen, a laundry room and even a gym.

IED ROMA DESIGN AWARDS
An idea, that of co-living, which relates to the winning project of the IED Roma Design Awards, where the thesis work of two recent graduates, Carola Aureli and Beatrice Fiorentini, was the winner in the Design section. The project Tienimi per mano is focused on a series of accommodations for the visually impaired inside the Centro Regionale S. Alessio in Rome.
