IN A NUTSHELL:

  • IED Firenze and IED Barcelona
  • Brand Design Management in Food Wine and Tourism 2019-2020 + Marketing Internazionale del Vino 2020-2021.
  • Product & Strategy Designer

YOU NOW:
I am now working in my family business producing face shield masks where I follow European retailing. My new business is about developing and creating PPE face shields masks to protect people from droplets and fluids. These face shield masks have the best materials and an elastic band in order to be adjusted to any shape of face.

CREATIVITY:
IED has helped me to believe that any idea can come true and be successful, to believe in myself, to be more curious and open-minded, to have the capacity to think beyond and to create better communication strategies and a more professional point of view. During the global pandemic, while I was in Europe and my family in Mexico, we got time to anticipate the first wave so we started to think about designs that could fit people’s needs and have something more competitive than the rest of the face shields masks. In our case, the quality is extremely good and it was tested by the BSI Group in London to get the proper certification and be introduced into the European market.

YOU & IED:
I choose Florence because it is the city that has made me fall in love again and again. Florence is a city of arts and natural beauty. It has helped me to develop my sensitivity and artistic point of view. It has completely changed my life because there I was introduced to the wine industry, which is the sector that I would love to work in now and to develop more skills. It taught me to appreciate the beauty of Tuscany and the power that Italy has as a Country. I fell in love with Florence, and I still live here.  My experience at IED helped me to develop a more international mindset and to join everyone’s needs with the force of one product. IED taught me how creativity is always welcome and to think according to human needs. In this case, the global pandemic has completely changed our way of living, so if by using these products we avoid spreading the virus, we protect ourselves; we all win because then we manage to keep on having more freedom with the right protection.

CHALLENGES OF OUR TIMES:
These times have been very difficult. I was about to do an internship but it was cancelled. However, this situation made me go and look for something else, develop a business with my family and pushed me to keep studying to stay longer in the city. I kept on learning about the wine industry, and I opened my possibilities to look and expand my knowledge in IED.

SUSTAINABILITY:
The global pandemic made us radically change our core business, as example my family originally produced furniture for The Home Depot. When we found ourselves in lock-down we had our warehouse full of materials and, in order to be efficient and save time, we started to recycle them arriving at the final products. We got the chance to know suppliers that could help us buy the PETG, while the rest was made from components that we had. As an example, the padded band that goes in the front of the face shield was made from the material used for yoga mats that we already had. So, in the end, we helped the environment by not wasting the materials we already had in stock.

ADVICE:

Well, I would say always stay open-minded and do as much networking as you can with your teachers and your colleagues because you never know if they can contact you in your professional future. Be creative and curious and never stop dreaming. Do your best and keep informed, keep learning and never close yourself to new doors or paths.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST:

The activity more valuable for my personal growth was living in Barcelona and adapting completely to a new world and understanding that there are different cultures, mindsets and tastes. That you have to be open and resilient to the culture in which you are not the culture to you. Doing our final project at Urban Winery in BCN helped me to completely change my point of view to break tradition, be open to new trends, possibilities, ways of communicating, doing research, exploring and adapting to a constantly changing world. While on the other hand living in Florence made me realize the importance of the core values of life, authenticity, tradition and beauty.
