Harmonizing Fashion and Dance: The Vision and Triumphs of Alessandro Vigilante as Featured in Harper's Bazaar Italy
Italian designer Alessandro Vigilante is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with in the fashion world, thanks to his striking vision of incorporating dance and movement into his designs. This fascinating narrative was extensively covered in the July issue of Harper's Bazaar Italy, which dedicated a feature to the talented alumnus.
As a former professional dancer, Vigilante brings a fresh perspective to the 'Made in Italy' fashion scene. Each of his collections is treated as an act in a theatrical performance. This is done with names such as "Talking Body," "Body Rebirth," and "Orgasmic Body," reflecting his emphasis on physicality and movement.
At the age of 22, Vigilante realized that dance alone couldn't fulfill him creatively. He ventured into fashion, studying at IED Milano, and honing his craft at major fashion houses including Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, and Lorenzo Serafini, even though he won the prestigious My Own Show competition organized by Franca Sozzani. His first collection came to life during the lockdown when he finally discovered what he wanted to express through his designs. He revisited his roots in dance, taking inspiration from legendary choreographers like Pina Bausch, Jiří Kylián, Carolyn Carlson, and Sylvie Guillem.
Despite his departure from the stage, Vigilante says he doesn't miss it because he still engages with dance through his design process. His discipline, dedication, and seriousness, he believes, are inherited from his dance background.
This vision, combined with his achievements so far, shows Alessandro Vigilante is an emerging designer to watch out for. He continues to carve out his niche within the 'Made in Italy' fashion scene.
