The Color Carne project has been included in the Nuovo De Mauro dictionary with Internazionale
“Color carne”, Italian for “skin colour”, is a traditional expression that in the world of fashion has always meant “pink”, demonstrating a total lack of inclusiveness. And is still defined as such in many dictionaries.
The “Color Carne” project is a campaign by two IED alumnae, Cristina Maurelli e Giuditta Rossi to associate this term with every nuance of skin colours found in humanity, making Italian a more inclusive language. The campaign is aimed at all Italian speakers, but in particular editors and brands, encouraging them to adapt their vocabulary and rethink products in a more inclusive manner. A milestone of this campaign has been the updated definition by the Nuovo De Mauro online dictionary, part of the Internazionale magazine, that highlight its non inclusive origins.
