We waited for the nominations, got excited about the shortlisted films, and now we can't wait for the most glittering night of the year. We are one step away from the Night of the Oscars. However, on Monday, March 27, we will be more than mere spectators. We'll be watching the 94th edition of the Academy Awards ceremony as real fans because Enrico Casarosa, who studied Illustration and Animation at IED Milan, is the director of Disney-Pixar's Luca, nominated in the Best Animated Feature category. A fact that would be enough to excite us, but there is more. Mirko Perri, a teacher from IED Roma, is the sound designer of The Hand of God by Paolo Sorrentino, the Italian movie nominated for Best International Feature Film.
Cinema has always been one of the most successful combinations with our Alumni, just like those with fashion, art and music. Creative director Giangi Giordano (read the interview) and photographer Manuel Alberto Claro (watch the conference he held for IED's 50th anniversary) are perfect examples. Still, many others are building their future in cinema, and we wish them all great success!
Enrico Casarosa, director, nominated for Disney-Pixar's Luca
Born in Genoa in 1970, Casarosa studied at IED Milan in the early 90s and then moved to New York to study animation. He collaborated as a storyboard artist in the USA for some of the most important animation studios, such as Blue Sky Studios and the House of Mickey Mouse. He also worked as a designer for some Disney Channel TV series. He worked with filmmakers such as John Lasseter, Brad Bird and Pete Docter and was one of the storyboard artists of Ratatouille and Up. In 2011 he made his directorial debut with La Luna short film nominated for an Academy Award. In an interview, he said that "It helped me as a new director to have something to tell, the story of my best friend and me and how those kinds of friendships help you grow".

Mirko Perri, sound designer
The Sound Designer Mirko Perri, an Alumnus of Sound Design and a teacher from IED Roma, is one of the most respected professionals in the sector. He has been collaborating with Paolo Sorrentino since The Great Beauty and has worked with many avant-garde authors such as Matteo Garrone and Matteo Rovere, with whom he won 3 David di Donatello. He collaborated with director Gabriele Mainetti for Freaks Out (2021), one of the most interesting Italian movies of the last few years. A film in which sound plays an important role and Mirko's work is of higher quality and innovation. On the Night of the Oscars, he will be in suspense as the Sound Designer for The Hand of God, nominated in Best International Feature Film. Find out more on Mirko Perri here.

Giangi Giordano, creative director, curator, visual researcher, senior lecturer at IED
