Amina Muaddi wins FNAA Awards 2022
Amina Muaddi celebrated her brand's fourth year since its founding with a fourth award at the Oscars of Footwear in New York. She won the coveted Designer of the year statuette at the FNAA Awards 2022 - Footwear News Achievement Awards - now in their 36th year. The event saw prestigious names on stage, such as Christian Louboutin, who received the lifetime achievement award, and Dua Lipa. The night concluded with the awarding of the Shoe of the Year 2022 prize won by the Nike Air Force 1 created by the late designer Virgil Abloh for Louis Vuitton.
Amina Muaddi was born in Romania in 1987 to a Jordanian father and a Romanian mother. Always fascinated by footwear but far from fashion glamour, she discovered a passion for Italy after a holiday that would remain in her heart. At sixteen, she moved to Milan, where she studied at IED and took her first steps in the fashion world before moving to New York to pursue a career as a fashion editor. In her early twenties, she returned to Italy, driven by a desire to learn the art of shoemaking. She learned the techniques and secrets of the craftsmen who specialised in shoe construction. She was soon hired as a consultant by French fashion designer Alexandre Vauthier, known to fashionistas for being Thierry Mugler's protégé and Creative Director of Jean Paul Gaultier's haute couture collection before launching his own collection in 2009. The experience gained in the luxury sector encouraged Amina Muaddi to open her first footwear brand in 2013 with her colleague Irina Curutz. The Oscar Tiye collection was born and, from the first season, made a name for itself on the international fashion scene. She then decided to focus on a new project bearing her name, so in 2018 the first Amina Muaddi collection was born, produced exclusively in Italy in the province of Parma. Success is immediate. Prestigious collaborations bring her into the limelight, and stars and influencers compete for her hyper-feminine creations.
